Autism and Language Impairment

It has been suggested that autism and developmental language disorder may share similar causes.

We want to find out whether children with autism and children with SLI show some of the same thinking styles.

We are also trying to see whether some of the inherited characteristics of autism are the same as characteristics inherited in SLI.

The study will help us to understand the relationship between autism and SLI. Results will also help in early diagnosis and in developing targeted interventions for children with these difficulties.

Who can participate?

  • Children with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and children with Specific Language Impairment (SLI)
  • Aged between 5 and 12 years old
  • Can talk in sentences

If you would like to participate, or find out more about this study, please contact Lauren Taylor using our online enquiry form or phone 08 6488 2479.
